Hello and welcome to my home page. I'm quite glad that you made it this far. I'm hoping to expand this site Real Soon Now! (tm) In the meantime, here's some recent content: My wife's picture gallery
Also, almost all of this site was done when HTML 3.0 was current. I'm now (April, 2010) playing around with Quanta and WebDAV, which is HTML 4.01 Transitional. So there will undoubtedly be regressions that I'll have to fix.
My Background
I was born in Jane Crookall's Nursing Home in Douglas Isle of Man, May 7, 1952. We lived on Lower Dukes Road for the first three years of my life before emigrating to Canada 1955, coming over on the Empress of Australia. We moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where I grew up and attended the University of Manitoba, I was graduated with a B.Sc. (Honours) and a M.Sc. in Zoology. I moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, to do my Ph.D. at Simon Fraser University with Dr. Brian McKeown. (If you're interested, my Master's thesis is entitled, "Salinity Tolerance and Aspects of Sodium Regulation in Lake Trout (Salvelinus namaycush) and Ph.D. Thesis is entitled "Biochemical and Physiological Studies With Salmon Prolactin".) Following my doctorate, I was firstly a post-doctoral fellow then a research associate with Dr. Harold Copp in the Dept. of Physiology at the University of British Columbia. After that, I moved out of the university environment into teaching at private health care colleges. One thing I found out when doing that is that I really love teaching and that I'm good at it.
My Interests
I have a tremendous number of interests, from the biological to the philosophical. I'm now playing around with woodworking and have acheived the rank of Junior Amateur Woodbutcher. My Dad would be proud. :-) If I ever make anything worth showing to others, I'll post some pix. I'm having fun though, with my bandsaw and a couple of wonderful books by Lois Keener Ventura: Building Beautiful Boxes With Your Bandsaw and Sculpted Bandsaw Boxes
Random Amusings and Disconnected Thoughts
While patience may indeed be a virtue, the necessity for patience is a pain in the ass.
Honour and integrity are one's gifts to oneself.
I'm glad to admit that I consider my life a success.
Here's some pictures.
These are some rather humourous articles
